Sgt-Maj Woody was a great friend and companion. Regardless of how bad the day had been, Sgt-Maj knew just what to do, and during the really tough times, he was always there to help uplift my spirits. I am getting close to retirement, and like John Steinbeck’s book “Travels with Charley, In Search of America”, we planned to travel this great country together. These plans will never materialize, but when I do get opportunity to travel, Woody will be there in spirit! He died in my arms on 18 September 2012, and if dogs could talk, his last words would have been, “Old Soldiers Never Die; They Just Fade Away. Good Bye My Friend”. Good bye Sgt-Maj Woody may you rest in peace!
